About
Woolworths Mobile Global Roaming travel SIM card allows you to roam in over 180 countries and make great savings on Global Roaming costs. You can make & receive calls, send texts and access the internet and emails wherever you are in the world. Simply replace your ordinary SIM with a Woolworths Mobile Global Roaming SIM while overseas.
Your phone needs to be unlocked and generally less than 5 years old. By purchasing a local number it’s possible to forward your usual mobile number so you can be easily contacted when abroad. Managing your account is simple, recharge with a credit card online at any time. The Woolworths Global Roaming SIM is compatible with most unlocked regular, micro and nano SIM handsets, smart phones, laptops and tablets, including the Apple iPhone™ 4-8.
Setting Up Your SIM
Before you set off on your travels don’t forget to make sure your SIM is activated and working correctly for you. Follow these easy steps:
- Firstly make sure your phone or tablet is unlocked (not locked to one particular network). Your local provider can help you unlock your device if its locked.
- Next you need to activate your SIM. Click "Activate SIM" on the Woolworths Global Roaming homepage and enter the 19 digit number found on the front of the SIM card surround or the reverse of the SIM chip itself.
- You will be asked to fill in some user details and enter your username and password for the creation of your user account
- The setting option will be prompted, so you can configure your phone by selecting the Operating System of your phone.
- Insert your new SIM into your phone or tablet and switch it on. Make sure that you pick up a local network.
- Finally, once you have tested that the SIM is all working, either take out the SIM or turn roaming data off on your device until you travel, so that your email and apps don't inadvertently use your included credit before you leave!
- You are all ready to go. It’s that simple!
We recommend you test all services before you travel and familiarise yourself with the features of your travel SIM.
Topping up
If your balance is running low don’t worry! We will send you a "low balance alert" so you can top-up before you run out of credit.
To top up your account just click "Recharge" on the homepage and then you can add to your cash balance or save even more by buying a bundle. We have bundles for calls, text & data or data only. Something for everyone!
You can also set an auto-top up amount so that you never need to worry about running out of credit again.
Adding a credit bundle to your SIM can give you even bigger savings!
To purchase bundles, your SIM must already be activated and you must be logged into your account. Once logged in, go to the "Shop" page, and choose from the range of attractive bundles we have to offer.
To see our rates without bundles, visit our Rates page.
Please note: When you buy a bundle it always activates immediately and will expire at the end of the bundle period: e.g. if you buy a 500Mb 30-day bundle today, it will expire 30 days from today. Therefore to get the best value we suggest you purchase bundles just before you travel, or when you are already on your trip.
Also if you purchase more than one bundle at one time, those bundles will be active at the same time. We suggest you purchase an extra bundle only when you have used up the previous bundle.
Adding Local numbers
Adding local landline numbers to your SIM allows your friends, family and business colleagues to contact you for the price of a local call, no matter where you are in the world.
Let’s say you’re travelling to Paris on business but your brother lives in Sydney. By adding a local Sydney number to your SIM, your brother can call you for the price of a local call, even though you are in Paris!
By adding a local Parisian number, your business colleagues in Paris can also contact you for the price of a local call!
The possibilities are endless and you can add up to 50 numbers, for as long as you like, for locations all over the world. Note that the cost of each landline number begin at $8 per month.
Depending on where you are, it’s possible you may still be charged for receiving a call via the local landline numbers. To view more details on rates please click here.
Some countries require additional documentation to be supplied in order to set up a local number. This is a fraud prevention measure, and is beyond the control of Woolworths Global Roaming.
To purchase a local number for your SIM card you need to log into your account (if you don't have an account, first activate your SIM Card so then you can register an account). Once logged in, go to the "Shop" option in the menu where you can find a section to "Add a Local Number".
Using data
To use data when you are travelling, all you need to do is ensure that "data roaming" and "mobile data" are switched on in your phone settings.
With data rates from as little as 5 cents per MB, you can continue to enjoy using data while you travel just like you do at home without the risk of a huge bill from your mobile operator.
Don't forget that some apps may use data in the background so when you are travelling make sure to only enable the apps you actually need.
Making Calls
To make a phone call, we use what is known as a "call back" service. This is the most economical way to make calls and allows us to guarantee you great savings on international calls
Making a call couldn't be easier. Simply dial the number you need to contact, dropping the first 0 of the number, including a plus sign and country code. Then press "call". For example if dialling 0412****** please dial as +61412****** or 0061412******.Your call will disconnect momentarily and then your phone will "call you back". Just answer your phone as normal and you'll be connected.
Sending a text is the same as normal. Just input the number including plus sign and country code and press send.
